What should I expect on my first consultation with a physiotherapist?
Our consultations aim to provide the patient with a thorough understanding of their injury. On our initial consultations we will first undertake an interview process to understand the history of the present condition. This will be followed by a comprehensive physical examination to further assist in diagnosis. Based on this assessment process, a diagnosis is made and treatment will then follow. As an adjunct to treatment and to assist in timely recovery often home based exercises are prescribed by the physiotherapist to assist patients in meeting short, mid and long term goals.
Do I need a referral from my doctor to see a physiotherapist?
With exception to Work Cover claims, Verteran Affairs , Enhanced Primary Care or Third Party Insurance claims you don’t need a referral to see a physiotherapist.
Does bulk billing apply to physiotherapy?
No. Bulk billing does not apply to physiotherapy. Certain patients can be eligible for an Enhanced Primary Care plan (EPC), which is available for patients with chronic illness and is to be discussed with your doctor.
How many sessions will I need with the physiotherapist?
Session number is largely determined by the severity or nature of the injury. We strive to provide a timely recovery and advocate self-management strategies to assist in recovery and injury prevention for the mid to long term.
